Why You Should Do the Intelligent Textbook Exercise

February 7, 2026

Class —

I want to explain why you should work through the Intelligent Textbook Generator — and why what you are looking at is much bigger than making a book.

First — Go Walk Through It Yourself

Dan McCreary's Intelligent Textbooks project — the methodology, the skills, and the full framework — is here:

Walk through the repo, read the documentation, and look at how the skills work together to generate structured, Bloom's Taxonomy-leveled educational content from source material.

If you are on Windows and hit any setup issues, look for the Windows-specific help in the docs. Mac users should be straightforward.

📍 Dan will be at The Thinking Spot in Wayzata on Monday — afternoon into the evening. If you want to see this live, ask questions, or dig into the system with the person who built it — show up.

Here's What I Did

I simply pointed to a website. No files uploaded. No data cleaned. No special preparation. Just a URL.

The site belongs to a contact of mine — Steve at Black Hills IP. Steve is a global leader in intellectual property, connected to a leading international patent law firm, and running patent automation technology as a SaaS platform. This is a real-world, high-stakes professional domain.

I pointed the Intelligent Textbook Creator at his website and asked it to generate a textbook. I gave it one key instruction: apply Bloom's Taxonomy — pedagogical instructional design that levels learning outcomes from basic recall up through understanding, application, analysis, evaluation, and creation.

That is not a summary. That is a structured educational framework that instructional designers get paid serious money to build by hand.

In 30 minutes, it produced a complete, 13-chapter textbook covering IP fundamentals, patent prosecution, docketing systems, PCT international filing, AI-powered legal tools, ethics, outsourcing, and portfolio management — all with Bloom's-leveled learning outcomes at every tier.

See It Yourself

The Pipeline — Why This Is Significant

What came out of that 30-minute generation is not just a book. Here is what actually happened:

1
Source → Textbook
I pointed at a website. The system generated a Bloom's Taxonomy-structured, pedagogically designed textbook. That textbook is now a Subject Matter Expert (SME) domain source — a structured knowledge base for an entire professional field.
2
Textbook → Knowledge Graph
That SME domain book was processed into a learning graph — a visual, navigable map of every concept, how they connect, what prerequisites feed into what, and how the knowledge builds from foundational to advanced.
3
Knowledge Graph → Project Instruction
That structured domain knowledge becomes instruction inside a Claude Project — the knowledge base, the source of truth for the AI.
4
Project → Working Domain Bot
That project becomes a domain-specific intelligent bot — an assistant that actually knows IP law, patent prosecution workflows, docketing systems, and AI-powered legal technology at a professional level.

I did this in 30 minutes. With one website. For a globally significant professional domain.

Every company has domain knowledge trapped in websites, docs, and people's heads. Every industry has certification programs. Every profession has training needs. This pipeline turns any of that into a structured, intelligent, deployable AI brain — on demand.

That is why you should do this exercise.
